Full transparency
Your payout is an estimate — here’s exactly why
No skimming, no hidden fees. We show you the market, the costs, and when the number locks — so you always know what the credits your charging generates are really worth.
A credit is a fixed weight. The dollar value floats.
Every time you charge, you mint a compliance credit. A credit is a fixed quantity — one tonne of CO₂e — locked by the Clean Fuel Regulations the moment the electricity is metered. That weight never changes.
What changes is the price. The dollar value of a credit floats with the carbon market, so we show you an estimate until the batch actually sells and the real number locks. Think of it like a fixed weight of gold: the weight is fixed, and we reprice the dollar value until we sell the batch.
The price today
Deliberately below market — so the final number should surprise you upward, not down.
What a large player clears. Small sellers like us clear below it.
The market moves
ECCC’s published quarterly volume-weighted-average credit price — real data points, not a smoothed guess. This is why a fixed dollar figure would be a lie: the price went from ~$93/t in early 2025 to ~$343/t by Q2 2026.
What comes out — and what never touches you
The one real haircut: ~13.5% off-take discount
We’re a small seller, so when we sell a batch, the buyer/broker takes a cut to aggregate our small lots. That’s the whole reason we mark credits at $280.00/tonne instead of the $340/tonne headline — it’s a market cost, not our profit. We bake it in conservatively so your estimate is honest from day one.
Never deducted from your payout
- ✓Metering compliance — OCPP/API session validation & recordkeeping (SOR/2022-140 s.161, s.165)
- ✓Annual credit audit — Mandatory third-party verification of annual credit reports (ISO 14064-3)
- ✓Payout delivery — Interac e-Transfer delivery
These are paid from Jinx’s own revenue (membership + merchant partners), never from the credit value you’re owed.
From charge to cash — the honest timeline
Here’s the part most programs hide: your money isn’t instant, and we’d rather tell you exactly why than let you find out the hard way.
- 1
You charge. Every kWh accrues toward a potential compliance credit, and the quantity is locked the instant you charge — one tonne of CO₂e per the regulation’s fixed formula. It sits as Pending and keeps growing all year as you plug in.
- 2
Independent verification. Before any credit can be sold, a third-party verifier audits our charging records against the regulation and the government deposits the credits. This is the honest reason your money isn’t instant: we don’t sell a single tonne until an outside auditor has signed off that every credit is real.
- 3
The batch sells. Once deposited, we sell the credits as a batch. The real price locks right here, and your value flips from Pending to Landed (the sale proceeds are now in our account) — then to Approved once the proceeds are verified against the ledger.
- 4
You get paid. You can withdraw only Approved value — money we’ve actually received — never an estimate.
The honest timing
Because we’re a brand-new program, we have to pass our first independent verification and sell our first batch before any credits turn into cash. That first payout lands roughly 18–24 months from launch. After that first cycle, payouts settle annually, aligned with the compliance period.
Nothing about that wait is a surprise: your dashboard shows your accrued credits and their live estimated value from day one. The estimate just doesn’t become withdrawable cash until an outside auditor has verified it and the batch has actually sold — and that’s the same standard we’d want if it were our money.
